During the work on this project, based on off scene story
aspects of Medea, in collaboration
with the theatre company Almost Human,
we were introduced to a different technical process, based upon static sets and
models, which were to be presented as live performance pieces. The process
required everyone to work cooperatively in groups, in a professional manner,
with each individual person performing particular tasks of the piece.
The first aspects that we were introduced to, and that were
new introductions, was the creative process of generating ideas and sharing
them within the group, in order to produce a coherent piece for the final
performance, which was to be an 8 minute piece, filming the set and models,
with interactions from the performers, but without puppets. One of the first
tasks as the group was to write down several traits, alongside interests and
resources, which could potentially be helpful to the group and the production
process of the piece.
Another part of the project that was introduced was the
creation of ‘ten rules of making.’ The rules put in place to complicate the
processes of making and designing, so that we would come up with new ideas,
experiment and test them, review them, and make any alterations if they were required.
This process was very exciting as it meant that, during the moments of
turbulence, sometimes it was required to stop and think about what works, what
doesn’t, but most importantly, how they could be resolved. This was a very
interesting and intricate process which required a great deal of thinking,
communicating and analysis.
Within the group, many of the tasks that I performed were
based upon constructing numerous large scale and, several, small scale items. I
enjoyed doing these parts of the project, and learning the most appropriate
techniques and materials, particularly through experimentation and tests of the
objects and techniques. Using these processes aided in developing my stills of
making, improving numerous techniques and the quality of work being produced.
There were also many moments when difficult situations
occurred, both, within the group and with the work being produced, which
required thinking and resolving in professional and highly productive ways.
For this project, the majority of my time was spent creating
various items, both in varying scales, and quality, which I believe was well
suited to my skillset and enjoyed doing. The assistance from my group, and the
allocation of other tasks, which I has less of an interest in, aided in the
management process of this project, as I knew that the other tasks would be
completed competently, and to a high quality.
The project was very exciting and complicated, with everyone
within the group working in a collaborative way, that allowed for developments
and improvements in communicative skills.
